The fifteenth-century library pressmark and the earlier letter-mark, which corresponds nearly always to the letter in the catalogues of s. xiv, xv, are written commonly at the head of the first leaf of text in the right-hand corner. The ex libris inscriptions are also written at the head of the first leaf of text and usually in the form 'Liber sancti Cuthberti (de Dunelmo)' (s. xii/xiii and later) or 'De communi libraria monachorum Dunelm'' (s. xiv in.). Marks consisting of a letter and, below it, an arabic number, were written on the flyleaf (usually) of some manuscripts, c. 1500.
