(fol. 1r) 'Liber sancte Marie Rievale'.

On fol. ir is the copy of a bond for £40 between Abbot William, Sir William Pickering of Oswaldkirk (d. 1542, who acquired considerable ex-monastic property), William Priestman, yeoman of Newtongrange (perhaps the tenant of Rievaulx of that name reported at the time of the suppression), and William Walton, yeoman of Newtongrange. William was abbot 1513–28.

'Richardum Gyllyne monachum Rievallys', i.e. Richard Hall, alias Gilling, monk of Rievaulx at surrender in 1538, later vicar of Laytham (Yorks); will dated 1 March 1565.

'Ricardus 1569' (front pastedown).

 At foot of fol. ir is the ex libris of John Dodsworth of Thornton Wetlass, probably the John Thornton born in 1569 who made his will in January 1640.
