Notes on evidence: | Of various inscriptions the most significant for provenance are: 1) (fol. 84v) Letter of abbot of Vale Royal, a. d. 1466, concerning safe conduct for John K[yllyng] who is described as confrater and commonachus noster. 2) (fols. 179v & 198r) account of moneys due to frater John K. (once Kyllyng). Inscriptions 1 & 2 are in the same hand. 2) appears to have been written when Kyllyng was in Suffolk (Kettlebaston, Gedding and Monk's Eleigh are mentioned). Names of later owners are Cheshire names (Weverham, Chester). |
