The pastedown, mainly illegible by ordinary light, is from a 14th-cent. court-roll: 'Curia Roberti de mala[?] [...] lent' apud Ex[...]'. The name 'Balby' can be read, no doubt Balby, north of Roche; also 'Louersale', some 13 miles south-west of Doncaster. |
