Notes on evidence: | New College 49 is evidently a present from John Whethamstede, abbot of St Albans, like London, Bodleian ad Worcester Coll. MSS.: like them it is identifiable in Whethamstede's booklist in London, BL, Arundel 34 (see under St Albans): see D. R. Howlett and R. W. Hunt, BLR 10 (1982), pp. 225–28. Identifiable by the 'lamb and flag' and 'eagle' medallions in the border on fol. 1r with the copy made for John Whethamstede, no. 9 in the list, 'Factura librorum de compo[s]icione aliorum', 'Item in factura Petri Iohannis super Matheum lxs' (Annales, p. 268); cf. Eton 103, Bodleian Auct. F. inf. 1.1, Cotton Nero C.vi. Chain staple on lower cover at foot; cf. the marks on Worcester Coll. 233 (the distance from the first to the last of the four nails is unusually long, c.115–1[..] in both MSS.). II bands (cf. Worcester Coll.). Hand of fols. 14r–40v, 57v–159r is that of Worcester Coll., 233. See D. R. Howlett & R. W. Hunt, BLR 10 (1981), p. 225. |
