'Memorandum quod quidam vir monachus domus cartusie bellavallis quondam monachus monasterii beate marie extra muros Ebor' ac eciam viri deo deuoti Thome Spofforth' herfordensis episcopi Capellanus, donauit hunc librum domui Cartusie predicte . . . ideo . . . supplicamus quatinus . . . sedulas preces ad dominum effundere non desinere dignessimi graciose pro Xpofero Brestons monacho predicto. . . .'

Thomas Spofforth, bishop of Hereford 1422–48, was formerly abbot of St Mary's, York, 1405–21.
