Probably visible in the list of books in the custody of the corporation, c. 1470, and certainly in the City's possession by 1516: 'At this Court Water Smyth which hath mayred the Wyff of M. Fabyan late alderman of this Citie brought in a grete boke of the Croniques de ffraunce wreton in ffrench and belongyng to this Citie which long lyme (sic) in the Kepyng of the seyd M. ffabyan" (Repertory 3 of the Court of Aldermen, fol. 93v).
