Vetus testamentum glo. — London, Dominican convent.
Provenance: | London, Dominican convent. |
Location: | British Library, London |
Shelfmark: | Royal 3 E.i–v |
Author/Title: | Vetus testamentum glo. |
Type of evidence: | inferred evidence |
Notes on evidence: | 16th-cent. notes in Royal 3 E.i and 3 E.ix show that 3 E.i and six other vols. 'all bounde in white lether' and identifiable with 3 E.ii–v, vii, viii, formed a 'set' of glossed books of the greater part of the bible (cf. Cat. Royal MSS., 1, p. xl). The fact that 3 E.i–v, viii belonged to the London Dominicans is now recorded only on the outside of the 18th-cent. bindings. For 3 E.iii this is found also in Casley's catalogue. |
Date: | s. xiii |
Ownership: | Henry Fitz-Alan, Earl of Arundel, and John, Lord Lumley. A 16th-cent. inscr. in 3 E.i reads: 'This Bible [ . . . ] a Glosse and Commentaires bounde in lether conteyne Genesis . . . being in 7 volumes in folio'. The similar note in 3 E.ix (see Canterbury, Franciscan convent) refers to three volumes as being 'bounde in white lether'. |
