Notes on evidence: | Thomas Gascoigne intended to bequeath Balliol Coll. 45 and 46 to St Paul's, according to erased inscriptions in each volume, but it is unlikely that the intention was carried out: on flyleaf of each volume (erased): "Liber Magistri Thome Gascoigne sub illa [?] condicione quod post mortem ipsius Thome tradatur librarie communi ecclesie cathedralis sancti Pauli Londonie" (reading almost certain). |
