Ownership: | Medieval binding, faded pink leather over bevelled boards. 'Mystris Gowldewell me possidet teste streete' (fol. 170v, s. xvi in.) On first pastedown are: 'John Campe owe this booke'; 'Reinold Clarke is the trewe owner of this Booke' (s. xvi). 'Henry Elmy' and date 1620 (fol. 84v). 'Bought of Roger Pott of Colechester Bookseller the 29th of Aprill 1628. Payde for it xis vid' (second pastedown). Belonged in 1944 to Mr Frank Brown, historian, then to Messrs Maggs, London. Sold at Sothebys 19 July 1949, lot 276, to Mr William Foyle (1885–1963) of Beeleigh Abbey, Maldon (Essex), passed by inheritance to daughter Christina Foyle (1911–1999). Sold, Foyle Sale at Christie's, 11 July 2000, lot 72, to Sam Fogg. Now in an American collection. |
